MCGINN-IGAN’S WAKE
November 10th, 2013 by Clark Humphrey

There’s still hope in late-counted ballots for Kshama Sawant’s City Council run.

But it’s definitely all over for Mike McGinn, soundly defeated for Mayoral re-election by Ed Murray.

Possible lessons:

  • It’s one thing to have solid progressive credentials. It’s another thing to get things done, particularly with a council and a bureaucracy dedicated to doing everything the way they’ve been done.
  • No, the Stranger (McGinn’s chief, and incessant, cheerleader) still cannot, by itself, sway an election.
  • Murray might not have been an effective State Senate leader (failing to hold sway over the “conserva-Dems”) who threw Senate control to the GOP). But he’s a shrewd political player, something McGinn turned out not to be. Can this lead to action on the issues that matter in Seattle (saving Metro Transit from devastating cuts, reforming the police department, stemming the drain of affordable housing)?
